The long stretch of winter is nearly over. One more month to go before the ecosystems start to reveal themselves, erupting with biotic elements, which made me think about how nature, over long periods, reclaims everything, with all of its untamed beauty.
My collage is an ode to nature. The decomposition of natural fabrics slowly starts to break down, allowing plants to transform an item that once held much significance. A cotton shirt, for example, would slowly degrade, and as the fabric disintegrates, microorganisms and sprouting roots would expose themselves, creating a mini ecosystem. The biotic elements intertwine with human-made constructs, showing the inevitable dominance that nature has and how it will, eventually, consume all things.
So, for this collage, I melded garments from Commission and morphed them into different shapes, changing the form of each item. What once signified themes of identity are now a pile of fabrics, dissolving into nature. The integration process starts next where we begin to see the organic takeover with vines emerging, weaving themselves in between the garments, and fully bloomed iridescent flowers scattered throughout what appears to be the leftovers of a human figure. Themes of identity, the passage of time, and the fading of civilizations—only for nature to blanket it all in one green swoop.
That’s all for now! Short and sweet. As always, please leave a comment below and share your thoughts—I always love hearing from you! This will be a continuing series, so feel free to share it with your friends to support my work!

I like how this dismantles the misconception, “we must save Mother Earth.” The earth will be fine, whether we learn to change or not, it’s our way of life that we want to hold onto.
I love the theme of nature taking over what is human made, AND I enjoy the colors you used
